AI (that may be what comes back as UFOs from our future):

  • Why would you postulate, loosely, that this could be UFOs from our future? As a means to check on our progress? Which seems irrelevant as those in the future would have had some knowledge of our history and decisional outcomes.

This obviously goes back to your fascination with AI and the prospects of our world being a simulation. BTW, I find this to be of enormous interests as the "simulation" would explain a lot concerning past and current cultural and technological developments.

But as interesting as an AI simulation, I'm still fascinated by the origins of human consciousness and its interaction with the rest of the physiological machinations of the brain and body.

  • I'm gong to input some stuff from a new book, I just got, about consciousness, Tim.

Consciousness continues to baffle everyone, in science and out.

The problem, for me, is that it ties in with concepts of reality and pseudo-reality, making discussion(s) labyrinthine.

  • Rich, as of this moment, I lean towards consciousness being a loosely separate component. Consciousness is not a totally stand alone aspects of the Mind Body question, but there appears to be some degree of separation. This coming from years of observation and interactions with those having severe neurological insults.

  • I think that mind (consciousness, as it were) may be an almost separate entity also.

There is a biological, neurological connection of some sort. How tenuous or serious that connection is makes for a discussion, as has always been the case (for philosophers, science, and psychologists/neurologists).

  • If UFOs come from the future, why the UFO experiences are so often so incomprehensible? Wouldn´t the travelers from future be a bit more understandable or at least wouldn´t they try to be? (No, I don´t think they come from outer space either.)

I kind of like that were-living-in-a-computer-simulation -therory, it would really explain some things. But probably reality (or ”reality”, who gets to define what it is?) is something completely different and even weirder. Actually I don´t think that we can experience reality ”just the way it is”, everything is filtered by our senses and our brain.

If consciousness is separate from the body or the brain, how come injury to the brain can affect the whole personality? Or, if there´s an unchanging, platonic personality behind all these bodies, how does it differ from the personality I feel right now I am?

Sorry, I got excited, but this is interesting. Now I breathe slowly : )

  • Jerry...

I address the consciousness idea (somewhat) in my latest post (above), and plan more upcoming.

Your idea that future AI machines, from our future, would have evolved (would be smart) to the point that they they wouldn't be offering incomprehensible scenarios to those whom they confront, is interesting.

Maybe the AI machines, by going back and forth in time (to the future as well as the past) have accumulated input (data) that has confused them, They are machines, after all, not geared to imaginative thinking like humans; AI entities are just "intelligent," not culturally creative or fictive -- a matter that I will also introduce here about how fiction promotes intelligence and thought, via the ideas of Derrida, about whom I've had some discussion with Derrida expert, my pal, Bryan Sentes, who teaches at Dawson College in Montreal.
